Cargo of Hope

Viva Kids

One of the hardest things to deal with while living in the Dominican Republic is seeing widespread need and knowing that although we have countless resources in the United States to help meet those needs, its not easy to get things into the country. However, we recently completed the necessary steps to enable us to import donated items into the country without paying the usual heavy taxes. Viva Kids would like to ship 2-4 containers per year filled with items that can be a blessing to churches and other organizations that are reaching out into their communities. Often even the smallest item can be a huge blessing. Some children centers have been patiently waiting for 2-3 years to have enough extra money to buy a simple ceiling fan to bring relief from the extreme heat. In other cases, something as simple as a microphone or musical instrument can be a tremendous blessing to a church. The cost of shipping a 40’ container from the USA to the Dominican Republic is approximately $3,000.00. This is a reasonable cost considering the amount of needed items we can fit into such a container. There are two ways you can get involved in this exciting program. First, we need help to raise the money to cover the shipping. You can sponsor a complete container or donate any amount to help cover the cost. Second, we are gathering needed items to ship down to the Dominican Republic. All gift-in-kind donations are tax deductible. Here is a list of items we are specifically looking for. However, if you would like to donate something that is not on the list, please contact us and we will let you know if we can use it.
