Construction Projects

In this past year, VivaKids has taken on the financial support of new home construction for several families due to flooding from a recent hurricane or simply not having the means to provide for their family. VivaKids stepped in to help underwrite the construction of these new homes at no cost to the families.

In a greater role, VivaKids was presented the challenge, which we accepted, to provide the funds to help build a new vocational school being established to provide the necessary skills for graduates to succeed in the Dominican Republic. VivaKids has already raised nearly sixty percent of the needed funds for phase one construction.

Vocational School

Over the past several years, it has been a wonderful privilege for VivaKids to be able to support the work of the Cimiv Children Center in Dominican Republic. It’s directors, Dr. Enerio and Leopoldina Mercedes, left their successful careers over 10 years ago to dedicate themselves to making a difference in the lives of needy children.  Currently, their Children Center reaches 150 children, Monday through Friday, providing two hot meals, quality education, medical care and spiritual formation.  However, our joy is bittersweet as we see children who grow up in the Center, only to have to leave when they enter high school.  This need has inspired VivaKids and the directors of the Center to develop a Vocational School as part of the Children Center.  Through this school, students will be able to continue their education and learn valuable skills such as carpentry, plumbing, mechanics, sewing, baking, electricity, etc. Upon graduation, students will be able to begin successful careers in their perspective fields of interest.

We were thrilled when we broke ground last spring.  Currently, construction of the vocational school continues to move forward.  The entire structure for the first floor is raised and the roof is poured.  The interior walls have been plastered and all the basic plumbing has been installed. There is a sense of excitement among both the staff and the children as they see the building taking shape before their eyes.  We still have a long way to go, but as each new block is laid, so grows the anticipation of soon having their very own Vocational School, where hundreds of children can receive quality education and training, thus equipping them for a successful launch into adulthood.
